Paulina Wroblewska (9) listened intently to the finished song she had put so much effort into. She had poured her emotion into the lyrics, sung them multiple times in the studio, and listened for every imperfection she could change. Now, it was finally finished.
In his second meet back from academic probation and being ineligible to play the sports he loved for almost a year, Jason Allison (12) soared over the 6’3” high jump crossbar with ease, breaking the school record.
At 1 a.m., Westview varsity softball pitcher, Geena Restaino (11), woke up in searing pain. The entire left side of her torso was excruciating and was preventing her from sleeping.
Arzhang Badiozamani (12) started track and field not out of love for running, but because he had nothing to play for a spring sport. After he didn’t make it on the freshman soccer team, he felt obligated to play a sport that year in order to keep himself in shape. Badiozamani discovered shortly thereafter a hidden talent and passion that allowed him to become one of the fastest and most efficient sprinters on the varsity team.
With 248 teachers’ jobs in jeopardy, the Poway Federation of Teachers (PFT) decided to follow in the steps of the California School Employees Association (CSEA) and the Association of Poway School Managers (APSM) and administer a vote April 16 and 17 that would roll back each teacher’s salary by 2.7 percent and shorten the 2009-10 teachers’ school year by five days. A total of 69.33 percent of teachers and 34 of the district’s 36 school sites approved the reductions.
