Opinion: Showdown 2008: Obama offers change for Americans
October 24, 2008  |  Will Ellis

Barack Obama is, without a doubt, the candidate for America. If he is elected President, he will crusade for those who need the government to finally help them after years of neglect by the Bush administration.

Obama will decrease taxes for, at a minimum, about 80 percent of Americans, those who make less than $200,000 a year, with no tax increase for those who make less than $250,000 a year.

This tax plan will not hurt many small businesses, as the average small business owner makes an average of $233,600 a year. The majority of small business owners will not be affected by Obama’s tax plan. This is quite contrary to what McCain would have you believe, as he has misled the American people about Obama’s tax plan. McCain calls for corporate tax breaks, inflating the hurt that corporations are feeling in lieu of helping the average American.

In the broad issue of foreign policy, just as the economy Obama provides much greater assurance than McCain.

Obama is well liked around the world, a fact that Republicans curiously have held against him. He has a level head in his stances on Pakistan, Iran and North Korea, insisting on partaking in negotiations before inciting war with them, while McCain’s stance seems eerily against negotiations.

There’s also the problem with his many foreign policy gaffes. He has repeatedly mistaken Sunnis for Shiites, showing he doesn’t fully grasp the fundamentals of the religious tensions in the Middle East. He has chanted “bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb bomb Iran,” showing absolutely no tact in dealing with foreign nations.

Barack Obama understands that the president needs to have these basic understandings to utilize his power effectively.

In fact, now that we’re on the subject of power, let’s dive into Obama’s energy policies.

Obama is going to fight for an increase in what are now being called “green collar jobs” if elected president. He will fight for more expansion of clean coal energy, wind energy, and other alternative energy sources. He also does not support unnecessary offshore drilling, seeing its empty hype. Obama is taking the mature, responsible stances on energy, as opposed to McCain’s hollow game show tactics, offering a prize to those who can create a better battery technology.

Barrack Obama is the choice for the United States. He represents a bright future for this country, and hopefully, the American people will elect him to office so he can bring in the change we need, and aid an ailing country in severe need. Hopefully, the American people will say yes to change, yes to hope, yes to real success for America.
