The Nexus

Tucked away in the corner of the Vons plaza resides Rancho Peñasquitos’ newest sushi destination: Korean-owned Wonderful Sushi.

The menu is separated into different categories, making it easy to order. The great variety I found there was surprising, ranging from sashimi to noodles to a wide selection of rolls. Though the menu contains a lot of the same items also offered at other restaurants such as RB Sushi, Wonderful Sushi offers most of their menu items at half price.

After our order was placed, it only took a few minutes for the first of the food to arrive. The food came quickly with portions that were larger than most restaurants’. The food presentation was the first things to be noticed with the flowery designs and unique plates. The rolls were loaded, the sashimi pieces were big, and best of all, the fish was fresh.

I ordered a variety of sashimi and a roll. The fish was fresh and in big slices, and the rolls were made with utmost care. The rice had just the right texture and taste.

This restaurant offers a spacious selection of both indoor or outdoor seating. Outside, the trees and plants around the tables provide a calming atmosphere, while inside, the seats and tables are arranged to allow diners to feel comfortable.

The only downside of the arrangement inside is that the kitchen is not concealed, so whenever the chef is frying or cooking something, the sound is echoed throughout the restaurant.

Overall, Wonderful Sushi is an amazing place to go for family meals. It has convenient hours almost every day, but note that it is closed on Sunday. You’ll find good sushi and friendly people.
