WV Breakfast
October 23, 2009  |  Anna Buckley

I walked up to the lunch line window at 7:40 a.m. on Monday, ready to try our school food, breakfast style.

Although the menu offered a variety of cereals and whole grain pop-tarts, I chose a breakfast sandwich and a honey wheat donut.

Since there wasn’t much of a line, I received my meal within a minute. The lunch lady was very friendly as she took my order. The breakfast sandwich and chocolate milk combo was just $1.50.

For the price, I didn’t expect to be overwhelmed by the quality—the sandwich consisted of a chicken patty on a bun with a piece of melted cheese—but it was actually quite delicious.

The breakfast sandwich was filling while the donut was glazed and I could hardly tell that it was whole wheat, which apparently is what makes it healthy enough to be allowed to be sold on campus.

Overall, for the modest price and surprisingly good quality, the breakfast program is a great idea for kids who need to get their most important meal of the day when they’re in a rush or just want some extra nutrition to start their days.

It may not be IHOP, but it definitely beats going to class hungry.
